HELPER – BUILDING ERECTOR

About the Role

If you’re ready to get your hands on real work—steel, structure, and something that stands when you’re done—this is where you start. Metalex is hiring Helpers to join our field erection crews across Alberta. You’ll work alongside experienced Journeymen and Crew Leads assembling self-framing steel buildings, foam panel systems, and rigid frame structures for commercial, industrial, and energy clients.

No ticket required. What we’re looking for is attitude, reliability, and a willingness to learn. We’ll build the rest.

What You’ll Do

• •Work as part of an agile field erection crew assembling and installing complete steel building systems
• •Safely transport, handle, and install materials: metal panels, framing components, insulation, doors, roll-up doors, and trim
• •Support Journeymen Iron Workers and Crew Leads in the accurate layout, assembly, and adjustment of structural components
• •Follow all site safety protocols, including hazard identification, PPE use, and stop-work authority
• •Operate and work safely from man lifts, boom lifts, and elevated work platforms (training provided where required)
• •Complete end-of-day site cleanup, tool checks, and material staging
• •Assist with project documentation as directed

What You’ll Bring

• •A strong work ethic and willingness to learn the trade from the ground up
• •Prior experience in construction, framing, carpentry, or any skilled trades environment (an asset, not a requirement — we train the right people)
• •Physical capability to perform labour-intensive work including lifting 50+ lbs and working comfortably at heights
• •Valid Class 5 driver’s licence with a clean abstract
• •Availability to travel and work from base locations in Calgary, Red Deer, Stettler, and Edmonton
• •Ability to pass a drug and alcohol screening as required by client sites

Certifications — Assets but Not Required

• •Fall Protection certification
• •CSTS 2020 (Construction Safety Training System)
• •AWP / EWP / Man Lift certification
• •Any prior experience with self-framing or metal building systems
