JOURNEYMAN IRONWORKER – BUILDING ERECTOR

About the Role

You’ve earned your Journeyman ticket. Now put it to work with a company that builds at a higher standard. Metalex is looking for a certified Journeyman Ironworker (Metal Building Systems Erector) to join our field crews based across Alberta.

This role is primarily focused on rigid frame, pre-engineered steel structures—the most technically demanding work in our portfolio. You’ll also lead and participate in crews assembling self-framing buildings, foam panel systems, and other building types as projects require.

You’re expected to execute independently, hold the safety and quality standard on-site, and bring a level of precision and ownership that sets the tone for the crew.

What You’ll Do

• •Lead the field execution of rigid frame, pre-engineered steel structures from layout through final inspection—working from engineered drawings and erection manuals without supervision
• •Participate in and lead crews on self-framing buildings, foam panel systems, and other metal building solutions
• •Rig and hoist structural steel components; operate man lifts, boom lifts, and mobile elevated work platforms safely and competently
• •Read and interpret complex erection drawings, anchor bolt plans, and structural specifications
• •Maintain a zero-compromise standard on site safety: PPE, hazard identification, tailgate meetings, and stop-work authority
• •Serve as an on-site resource and mentor for Helpers and less experienced crew members
• •Interact professionally with clients, site supervisors, and general contractors; represent Metalex with confidence
• •Complete all required site documentation: inspection records, daily logs, material tracking, and project closeout paperwork

What You’ll Bring

• •Journeyman Certificate of Competency – Ironworker (Metal Building Systems Erector) – required in Alberta; Red Seal strongly preferred
• •6+ years of hands-on experience with rigid frame and pre-engineered steel building erection
• •Demonstrated ability to read and execute from engineered erection drawings, anchor bolt plans, and project specifications
• •Fall Protection certification (required)
• •CSTS 2020 (required)
• •AWP / EWP / Man Lift certification (required or to be obtained upon hire, reimbursed)
• •Strong proficiency with structural steel erection tools, rigging, and hoisting equipment
• •Valid Class 5 driver’s licence with a clean abstract
• •Willingness to work from base locations in Calgary, Red Deer, Stettler, and Edmonton; travel required
• •Ability to pass a drug and alcohol screening as required by client sites
